Vazir Paradox Urushi — Ishime-nuri Finish

The art of texture, perfected through lacquer.

The Vazir Paradox Urushi in Ishime-nuri celebrates a traditional Japanese lacquer technique inspired by the naturally irregular surface of stone. Unlike the mirror-like sheen of polished urushi, Ishime-nuri is distinguished by its tactile, finely grained texture and understated matte appearance.

Achieving this character requires a careful, layered process. Urushi lacquer is applied to prepare the surface, followed by the application of fine texturing material—traditionally powdered, cured urushi lacquer—to create the distinctive stone-like grain. Further layers and meticulous hand-finishing refine the texture, producing a surface with depth, subtle variation, and a distinctive tactile quality.

The result is a finish that invites touch as much as it draws the eye. Its delicate grain interacts with light without relying on gloss, giving the Paradox a quietly striking presence and an individuality that comes from the nature of the handcrafted surface.

On the Vazir Paradox, this traditional approach to lacquer artistry meets contemporary design, transforming the writing instrument into an exploration of material, texture, and form.

A finish shaped by hand. A texture inspired by stone. An expression of Vazir individuality.
